The south of the península is populated by wintering birds: Greylag geese, cranes, lapwings, shovelers… The marshlands and the lagoons are life hervideres.
The sunrise and sunset are broken by waterfowl´s voices. Visit to the Seville Countryside where steppe birds give away their presence: great bustard, little bustard, Hen harrier, Black-bellied… And Subbetica range allow us to see interesting birds linked to the rocky environment such as golden eagle, griffon vulture, Bonelli´s eagle, black wheatear, blue rock thrush and chough.
All that, accompanied by a careful and healthy Mediterranean cuisine with its main protagonist, the olive oil. We will provide the customer a series of cultural visits to see ethnological museums, oil mills and some of the wineries with the most typical wines of this land.
Day 1: Transfer from Malaga Airport to the Donana National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site. Depending on the time of arrival, may be afternoon activities. This will depend if we have to prepare lunch and dinner or just dinner. Due to we reached the village of El Rocío, the activity can be developed between the bird observatory of SEO and Manecorro. There are many birds, wintering and resident, which can be seen in this area of the Marshland where we emphasize the common geese in the Doñana Natural Area, where you can count thousands of them. Besides, we will be able to see European shoveler, pochards, mallards, northern paintails, spoonbills, flamingos, glossy ibises, kulizcas, common snipes, Red-knobbed coot, moorthens…
Dinner and overnight at Hotel La Malvasia, in the village of El Rocío, declared International Horse Village.
Day 2: Doñana Natural Area. Beginning at 7:30 in the morning with a hearty breakfast. Then transfer to the lagoons of La Rocina, where they will see spoonbills, glossy ibis, purple gallinures, cattle egrets, squacco herons, little egret, marsh harriers, little and black-necked grebes…
At mid-morning, transfer to the visitor center of El Acebuche, where you can see live screens on the in situ breeding center of the Iberian lynx and an interpretive video of the National park, as well as visit the lagoons of the ornithological route. In the picnic area of the visitor center you can enjoy magpies, one of the most important colonies of the Iberian Peninsula, which did not hesitate to approach for grabbing a bite.
This will be time for a picnic lunch. Back in the village, you will return to the Hotel Malvasia to rest until sunset, very spectacular in the marsh area watching the wild horses wandering around it. After dinner, free time to walk around the village.
Day 3: Rice fields of Doñana. Beginning at 7:30 in the morning with a Mediterranean breakfast. Transfer by minibus to Villamanrique de la Condesa and from there, through the rice fields, to the observatory of Jose Antonio Valverde, founder of the Spanish Ornithological Society and considered “Father of Doñana”. During the tour, we will see many water birds: waders, cabochons, spoonbills, geese, great egrets, glossy ibis, flamingos … and others of great interest such as the marsh harrier, crane, black stork, and hopefully, the eared owl between others. From there, transfer to the lagoon of La Dehesa de Abajo, where a large colony of ducks and waders are concentrated in winter. You will be able to see flamingos, marbled teal, mallard loons, crested coot, white-headed duck, European spoons… Lunch at the visitor center and in the afternoon, transfer to the countryside of Seville for an hour and half away by bus. Overnight at Hotel Albanta (La Lantejuela) and dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 4: Estate Ojuelos (La Lantejuela). Beginning at 7:45 am with a miller breakfast, typically in areas of olive oil. Early transfer to the Finca de Ojuelos to watch bustards and other steppe birds. It I zone of little bustards, Montagu’s harriers, black-bellied sandgrouses, kentish plovers, common sandpipers, water rails… By midmorning, tapas on the veranda of Ojuelos with local wine, beer, cheese and ham. At midday, picnic lunch next to the lagoon of the Government, where you will see glossy ibise, tufted ducks, white-headed ducks, flamingos, mallards, spoons… Transfer to the village of Los Villares, where accommodation La Posada la Niña Margarita is located. Right there, you will have dinner a tasty barbecue at the foot of the highest mountains in the province of Cordoba. Show of a local flamenco guitarist in the heat of the fireplace.
Day 5: South Córdoba lagoons. Beginning at 7:45 am with miller breakfast. You are in the cradle of the olive oil. Transfer to Tiscar and El Rincon lagoons, Zóñar Lagoon visitor center and Malpasillo reservoir. In this place the last white-headed ducks were saved in the 70s. In Malpasillo, you can observe, among other birds, a large population of white owl and a large colony of marsh harrier. Picnic lunch during the day until return to Posada La Niña Margarita. Dinner.
Day 6: Sierras Subbéticas. Beginning at 7:45 with miller breakfast. Transfer to Bailon River Canyon where you can watch so interesting species as the griffon vulture, black wheatear, Blue Rock Thrush and red-billrd Chough. If they want, Bonelli’s or real eagle could appear. The end of the tour with a spectacular view of one of the prettiest villages of Andalusia. You can have the option of visiting the cave of bats, with amazing stalactites and paintings. Visit to the lagoon of the Count. Back to La Posada Niña Margarita and dinner. Day 7: Mouth of the river Guadalhorce. Beginning at 6:30 am with miller breakfast. Transfer to the lagoon of Fuente de Piedra, a paradise for flamingos.
Then, transfer to the mouth of the river Guadalhorce where you can observe many water birds, some as interesting as the Audouin’s gull, the Kentish plover, snipes. Picnic lunch and transfer to the airport.
